Shopgate is a mobile-commerce platform from a German company (founded 2009) that builds native iOS and Android shopping apps and pairs them with an omnichannel fulfillment suite. It's backend-agnostic, serving Shopify, Shopware and Adobe Commerce stores plus custom backends, and is aimed at established mid-market and enterprise retailers, with a strong presence in the DACH region and the US.

Shopgate markets a two-layer model: a turnkey app with a page builder and branding controls, plus developer tooling (an SDK, CLI and sandbox) and a themes-and-portals system for deeper customization. An AI Copilot for prompt-driven page and push creation is rolling out.

Its frontend is decoupled from the shop backend through what Shopgate calls a Unified Commerce API, so a retailer can switch shop systems by swapping the connector without rebuilding the app. Checkout is handled by the shop system itself, and beyond the app it adds fulfillment tools such as Click & Reserve, ship-from-store and clienteling.

How apps are built

Shopgate presents a two-layer model it markets as ready-to-start but fully customizable. Out of the box you get a native app plus a page builder with unlimited pages and branding controls for colors, logo and icon. For deeper work, a Developer Center provides an SDK, CLI and an isolated sandbox, and a system of Portals and Custom Themes allows either targeted component changes or full custom builds, with CSS styling for brand control.

An extension-and-portal concept separates Shopgate's maintained core from a merchant's customizations, so core updates don't overwrite extensions. An AI Copilot is rolling out for prompt-driven page and widget creation, a Page Watcher that mirrors web-shop page changes into the app, and Auto-Push that drafts push campaigns from those changes, metered by monthly AI credits.

How it connects to your store

The app frontend is decoupled from the shop backend through a Unified Commerce API abstraction layer. Shopgate states that switching shop systems, for example Shopware to Shopify, only requires replacing the backend connector, leaving the app frontend unchanged. For Shopify it describes a direct interface with live catalog sync of menus, collections, search, products and metafields.

Checkout is handled by the shop system itself: Shopgate integrates the store's existing checkout, so payment methods, tax and shipping come from Shopify, Shopware or Adobe Commerce rather than being reimplemented. App-only offers on Shopify are driven through sales-channel rules. There is no public integrations directory; premium integrations such as Klaviyo, Emarsys and Algolia are paid add-ons.

Omnichannel and engagement

Shopgate goes beyond a storefront app into omnichannel fulfillment: in-store availability, Click & Reserve, Click & Collect, ship-from-store, return-in-store, clienteling and a loyalty card. That fulfillment suite is a core part of the pitch to physical retailers, and B2B features are available on the top tier.

On engagement, push notifications are unlimited and rich, with cart and inactive-device reminders, back-in-stock push, universal links and a deeplink generator. Content is managed through the page builder and standard or custom widgets, and multi-language covers 20+ languages on the higher tiers.

What it costs and who it's for

Shopgate is priced in euros on a session-based model, with no free plan and a 30-day trial. Starter is EUR299/month (Shopify only, with 5,000 monthly app sessions included), Growth is EUR799/month (adding Shopify Plus, Shopware and Adobe Commerce, developer tools, custom styling and omnichannel features), and Enterprise starts at EUR1,499/month (adding B2B, custom integrations and development). Sessions above the included allowance are billed as overages, and AI credits are metered, so effective cost scales with traffic and usage.

It fits established mid-market and enterprise retailers on Shopify, Shopware or Adobe Commerce that want a customizable native app plus omnichannel fulfillment, particularly in the DACH region.
